June 25th, 2012

well, to start with i would like to point out that TIME GOES TOO FAST!!

yes, today was my 12th class after all. it means that we will only have four more meetings. aargghh.. i love this class. with Ilsa, Kak Iris, Mbak Sita, and Ibu Etik. we had a lot of conversations based on non regular topics, such as The Net Generations, The Marijuana Policy in Indonesia, The Imported Products, The Idiot Box called Television, etc.

just like the previous classes we've had, today we learned by hearing a speaker in computer. the speaker was telling about one of the psychology problems. it is called phobia. everybody knows about what phobia is. but, do they really know what kind of fear that cause phobia?

based on the speaker said, the phobia can be categorize into three, they are:
  1. phobia is not a rational response. people who have a phobia of something usually will behave by doing a physical responses, such us run, cry, scream, or even being unconscious.
  2. phobia will cause people to react uncontrollable. most people have already tried hard to hypnotize them self not to be scared of something. but eventually when they have to face the thing, they will react spontaneously.
  3. and the last is that phobia will have a long lasting. it usually happens for more than a month.
there are three things that may cause people to have a phobia.

  • people will have a phobia by the traumatic accidents in the past. people who are phobia of a dog, perhaps have been attacked by it when they were a child. and this traumatic accidents stay until they grow old.
  • by seeing or watching someone's reaction  of something, people may have a phobia also.
  • phobia as a sign of deeper mental or hatred problems. for example if there is people who have phobia of darkness. it could be that the most hatred thing is that her/his father that often lock him/her in a dark room.
the last important thing that the speaker mention is how to treat someone with phobia.
  1. first, you can ask him/her to behave or react differently instead of being afraid of the things.
  2. second, you have to reveal the real problem first. see what' hiding inside his/her phobia.
the topic was not hard so that i could understand the main idea and concluded some things. besides, the way the speaker explained the topic was systematically thus i could listen to her without trying to translate her words one by one.

we also tried to find some words which are similar with the words of phobia. they are:
  • hatred
  • fearness
  • trauma
  • scared
 after all, we brought the topic into each of us. we had to tell the others or explain our friends if we had the traumatic accident in our life. just like me who afraid of darkness, Kak Iris who have a phobia of gas station when she was a child of 5 or 6 years old, Mbak Sita with her hatred of cockroaches, and last is Ilsa who is very scared of nightmare.
                ------------

i used to think a lot. but i never had an opportunity to speak them up.

and finally when i had those opportunities, i am speechless. i did not know ho to explain all these things in my mind.

that's why i took an course. english course. because mostly, it happens when i speak in english.

well, here we are.

June 21st, 2012

it was my - approximately - the 6th or 7th class for 3 weeks.
in every class, we will discuss an issue. probably a topic. every person has to give their opinion wether they agree or disagree.

today, the topic was about the advantages and disadvantages of being a part of the noble or royal family. this issue was based on what had happened to Kate Middleton who married Prince William.

as an ordinary girl who married an extraordinary man as known as Prince of England, there must be changes for her life.

my friends had list some advantages of being a part of the royal family, such as:
  • we will have many links and networks which are very useful for a family business
  • we will have a brighter future, like a widely open gate of being treated well, 24 hour security, the children will enter the best school and have the best education, able to go to any country you want to. just mention it!
  • instead of being only an ordinary Princess, you may also help people - a vast community/people throughout the world - by doing a charity. my friends said, when you are already a part of a noble/royal family, then it would be easier to gain money and support to help people. somehow, when there are two people (one is a Princess, and the other one is only an ordinary girl) stand in a street, hold a box and ask for some money which is for charity, people will surely choose the Princess one.
  • and the last advantages is that we will be a role model. anything we wear, we use, we do, those things will be on the magazines as the most up to date fashion.
as the matter of fact, i was choosen as the disadvantages group and actually had to mention some the disadvantages and at the same time argued the opposite group.

as i have told in the first line that my main problem is to floor my mind, i couldn't argue their opinion regardless, i knew the answer on my head. i just didn't know how to explain.

but well, i will tell you my list of the disadvantages of being a part of the royal/noble family.

once you decided to marry an extraordinary guy, in this case is a Prince, then it means that you already know the consequences and know how to deal with the changes of your life later.

  • lack of privacy. when you are becoming a Princess, as i understand, you do not only belong to your self or your family anymore. your life will be under eyes of people in all over the world. there will be paparazzi sneaks you wherever you go and whatever you do. cameras will be part of your life too and there will be no my own opinion.
  • when there are cameras in everywhere, it means that you must behave on what you said and what you do. do not stop smiling whatever you feel that time. just like what happened to Lady Diana. we never saw her unsmiling in front of cameras while deep deep down in her heart, she was crying of what actually had happened to her life inside the palace. but nobody knew it, right?
  • as an ordinary girl, i always want to be with my family in every special occasion. even when i have to stay in a long distance with them, i always tried to go home whenever i had time and surely as often as it could be. by being a member of the royal family, you will have to say beside your husband and his royal family. no more going home in every week end, or celebrating christmas in every year end. because based on the article that my teacher had read, when you marry with a royal family then it means that you must spend your christmas time with them. and what i understand is that you can go home as you wish because of the strict palace protocol.
in the end of the discussion and class, we concluded that it is fine to marry with the prince and become a part of the royal family. as long as you already know the consequences and know how to deal with them, you will adjust your self on your totally new environment easier and become a great princess.

actually, i messed the debated because of my lack of arguing and defending my opinion. so sad... so regretless...

today, i got some new words:

FROG = gown
TO COPE = to manage/to unite
PHILANDERING = womanize
SCRUTINY = close examination
GILDED = decorated
NOBLE/ROYAL/HONOURABLE  FAMILY = keluarga terpandang
NOBLE = good characteristic = mulia
TO DEAL/TO COMPROMISE/TO ADAPT/TO FACE = berurusan
